As a teacher, administrator, consultant and school board member,

She has taught at the elementary, secondary and higher education levels. She has been an administrator at both the local and state level.

The Arizona Visual Arts Model School District Program, which she initiated, was designed to assist school districts in setting goals complete with action plans to achieve them. In 2000, Dr. Boyer completed a 4 year elected term as member and past president of the Kyrene Elementary School District Governing Board. In addition to this she has taught art at the elementary, middle and high school level.

Her expertise includes extensive experience in adult education program development and implementation; and design of various educational staff development models ranging from courses to trainer of trainer institutes. She has also coordinated conferences, symposia, consortiums and regional events. Further, she is interested in developing alternative instructional delivery products to meet school district demands.

Dr. Boyer received her doctorate in Education from Northern Arizona University in Educational Leadership. Her dissertation was entitled The Knowledge and Application of Leadership Skills of Arizona Art Educators. This study was later replicated at the national level and funded by the NAEA. She received her Masters degree in Art Education from Michigan State University with a primary focus on the role visual arts play in the total education program through integration, interdisciplinary studies and thematic instruction.

Dr. Boyer has been a life long advocate for arts education. Her enthusiasm, sensitivity and vitality will capture the hearts and minds of your educational staff. Motivating teachers is one of Gretchen’s keys to successful consulting. One of her basic strengths is her ability to work with people and motivate them to become involved in the change process. She is able to streamline any seminar/workshop to meet your individual needs and provide meaningful activities, which capitalize on your existing strengths and expand the knowledge and application of skills by all participants.
