As a past governing board member, Dr. Boyer recognizes the joys and
complexities governing board members experience every day. From routine
matters to “hot issues,” being aware and understanding
governance is a must for any effective board. The state and national
school boards associations offer excellent events and training to orient
board members to their roles and responsibilities. The roles of the
Board and the roles of administrators are complex and sometimes differ
from board to board. Dr. Boyer has developed a method of assisting
local boards to be “the best they can be.” Through her
unique facilitation style, she is able to guide board members to identify
their needs, determine ground rules and develop a positive working
relationship with their superintendent. Everyone knows the superintendent
takes direction from the board, not from a single board member. However,
to practice this can be complicated and difficult. Another challenge
Boyer addresses is the difference between governance and administration.
Each facilitation is geared to your individual governing board needs
and expectations. Eduhelp consulting Services provides for co-facilitators.
In some cases, it is helpful to hear perspectives from both the administrative
and governing board perspective.
